1 out of 5 stars painfully aweful   August 13, 2010
Mrs. Ruth MacGregor
Ok, so the game is 5 years old now! well it felt it...i sold it the day after purchase to a very unfortunate ebayer :)

graphics: worse than many ps2 games! need i say more

gameplay: i like damage and i don't think slamming into a wall at 150mph would leave a car with just a scratch

Also, the driving is painful at best. Far to unrealistic and easy.

conclusion: just dont bother...i would recoment forza 2 if you are after a very cheap racing game! if not, go for forza 3...and if you've got a ps3 (why are you reading this review??) then wait for GT5

4 out of 5 stars Project Gotham Racing 3   March 28, 2010

Project Gotham Racing 3 is an arcade-style racing game which was a launch title for the Xbox 360. Considering this, it still stands as an addictive fun racer. After a couple of minutes of playtime, it is noticeable that this was a `starter' game for the console, and showed the potential of future games.

I'll start with the graphics as it's generally the first thing you tend to notice. For a launch title, it does a fairly good job with environment and the details of the vehicles you drive. There are four locations, which individually offer a number of circuits. The chosen locations are London, Tokyo, Las Vegas and Nurburgring. Each offers the same characteristics that you would notice in these locations, London tracks are through the city itself, with narrow roads and busy feeling side streets. Las Vegas offers vibrant colours, tracks that deter through hotel drive ins, Tokyo offers highway races and tracks that lead through dockyards, and of course Nurburgring offers one of the world's most famous racing locations. The cars look shiny and nicely detailed, although they do look slightly outdated compared to today's racers.

The gameplay is where the game truly shines. While the tracks are generally straight forward and don't lead astray from any other arcade racer, there is something this game offers that gives out a very addictive feel. It felt very satisfying mastering how a car handled and pulling off a perfect corner while looking through the windshield of the car. Which leads me on to the fact that strangely, this is the first ever racer that I have played entirely with the in-car view. I cannot explain why but it just felt right. When I tried to play with the camera behind the car, I didn't feel the same satisfaction and addiction I got from the in car view. This possibly could be how this game impressed me compared to other arcade racers out there.

While you play through the game you also unlock what is called `Kudos' points. These are effectively, style points. So the more drifting around corners, drafting opponents and clean racing you do the more kudos you earn. Kudos helps you to rank up and unlock special cars. This is a great addition to the game which makes races more interesting and also helps towards the replayability.

I managed to complete the game in a day, this did include frequent breaks. I don't normally complete games in a day and it's not that it doesn't have much to offer in length. It took about 6-7 hours of gameplay to complete every tournament on the silver difficulty. This is where the addictive nature of this game comes in handy, I will definitely be returning to the game to get gold on all tournaments and to earn more kudos. The difficulty is chosen before every race, there are 5 difficulties to choose from. The easiest setting is so easy even a blind chimp could win, whereas the most difficult setting will separate the men from the boys.

I haven't played much online due to the fact I never seemed to find any other racers online. I did participate in a tournament, which is basically a difficult hot lap that you enter, and if you qualify you are then entered in to elimination races until there is a winner.

As for the achievements, which I know some gamers like to know about. They are time consuming but not too difficult as long as you are a good arcade racer then you could easily get the majority of points it has to offer. I think I managed about 500 on one playthrough.

To conclude, for the price you can buy this game now, I definitely recommend buying this if you are a fan of arcade racers. While it does feel a little outdated, it has a very addictive nature and I think it has a lot to offer to casual players as well as more experienced players.

Disappointed with quality of this game. Advertised as in excellent condition but it was badly scratched. Would not buy from this seller again.

4 out of 5 stars Buy PGR 4 instead   August 26, 2009

This is a waste of money compared to the newer game...
PGR 4 has much better graphics and is a lot more challenging.
I would also reccomend buying NFS pro street instead.
Overall the graphics are terrible and it is extremely unrealistic.
There is not a large enough selection of cars.
And is it fun to know you are going to win easily...........
