ideal for travel April 22, 2010 Brian J. Adams (ruislip uk) I have had a laptop for a number of years but still found it a little bulky to travel arround with. After much investigation, and taking guidence from my eldest son, I decided to invest in an Asus Netbook. This gem has proved perfect for me, save that my wife also finds it ideal, and so I do not get the total usage envisage
Does what it says on the tin April 14, 2010 Brian Pizzey (Ashford, kent) Loved the Asus, i am not computer orientated but i have put this to quite regular use since my purchase. The gripes i've heard regarding Windows 7 starter are, i think, a little picky. It's more than adequate for the average user, it certainly has a lot more features than i will ever use. In my case if i want the full Windows 7 job i have Windows 7 Home Premium on my main PC. We are talking 10inch notebook Here, it's no good comparing it with the full size stuff but if you were to, it would stand up very well indeed. Battery life is amazing, charge overnight and you are set up for most of the next day, if required. One small downside is that the charger jack fits a little loosly in the side of the Asus, so you have to check that it is in correctly but this is a very small gripe. Looking for a decent case now, the Tech Air Z0011 looks just the job but Amazon don't appear to stock it. (my only gripe with Amazon, dealing with Amazon is normally very good)
Unusable April 9, 2010 Mr. I. J. Jobson (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my wife's birthday and when she opened it up she was really impressed and couldn't wait to start using it. The netbook looks great, feels great, has a great battery life ... but ... and this is a MASSIVE "but" ... it was completely unusable.
The thing wouldn't hold a wireless connection any further than a couple of metres away from the access point. Now before anyone has the usual "check your router / AP settings" thoughts, let me just share the fact that I have been designing, configuring, deploying and implementing wireless networks for nearly 14 years, including 2.4ghz networks before the 802.11 standard was even ratified, so I kind of know what I'm doing!
Every other wireless device in my house works fine (Laptop, iPod, phone, Wii, PS3 etc etc etc) so it really is the netbook that was a problem.
I went around and around with the ASUS service guys who insisted I needed to update the BIOS (i'd already updated the wireless drivers) ... however, this is a real struggle with no floppy or CD drive!
In the end I just gave up and sent it back to Amazon. Still looking for a decent replacement as the missus now doesn't have a birthday present!!
I suspect that this was probably a hardware fault, it felt like the antenna wasn't connected to the wifi card properly (obviously I wasn't going to wreck my warranty by opening it up) so it could have been a one off, but I'd steer clear if I were you.
Great Purchase March 26, 2010 Simone Camilleri (Malta) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am delighted with my new laptop (Asus 1005HA). It is so light, I can carry it everywhere. It has become a part of my handluggage on my trips. Even though it's only a 10-inch, the keyboard is very comfortable to use - no hitting two letters at one go! The battery lasts forever, after charging a few times it reaches its 8 to 8.5 hours. Just great. The 1 GB RAM is rather slow but a change to 2 GB makes all the difference. I would definitely recommend this laptop anytime.
nice piece of equipment March 22, 2010 Mr. Brian Haslam I bought this netbook to use travelling, but now find I use it daily instead of a laptop, good battery life love it.
