5 out of 5 stars First rate   August 1, 2010

I bought the Buffalo Drivestation 500GB USB HD specifically to back-up my Brennan JB7 music storage and play back unit. It worked straight out of the box - no software to load just plug and use. Ran into a problem because I was not switching off the JB7 before disconnecting the Buffalo. However, a call to Buffalo resolved this probelm and I was most in pressed by the speed of response, courtesy and knowledge of the person I spoke to at Buffalo.

1 out of 5 stars Buyer beware: your drive may fail   July 27, 2010

I've heard about, and read about, the woes of people who have experienced hard drive failures with their external drives, and never thought much about it. I've had one Buffalo external drive for a few years now and thought the brand was reputable and reliable. I purchased this new 1TB Drivestation in February 2009, and - one year and four months later - it has now failed so I join the ranks of those who have lost considerable amounts of data.
Despite trying a variety of recovery tools I have had no luck in recovering my data. So, purchase this drive at your own risk. It won't be infallible. For me, one year is not good enough. I won't be buying Buffalo again.

1 out of 5 stars Died just outside warrenty   July 1, 2010

I've had this hard drive for about 15 months, worked fine whenever i would use it. Then turned it on the other day and i just get a clicking noise and no computer will recognise. Don't waste your money, it's just not worth it in the end.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price though long in the tooth   May 16, 2010

Firstly there are a lot of other options in this field that you should think about before buying this older machine. Do not buy it at £999, for that you could buy a couple of decent laptops and still have change, or a pretty well spec'd desk top. Second hand/refurbished a far better option.

I needed an option that I can attach to a couple of machines with a reasonable amount of space. Mainly I am backing up photo's, videos, the odd presentation and music. This option, which I got even cheaper than the ones currently offered here, works smoothly, quietly and efficiently. I use it only occasionally, if I were to be wanting to use it between machines more often I would probably fork out for a USB powered model as it would eliminate the need for a three pin socket.

So far no reliability issues and it has proved robust in use. Not a bad option at all and at a good price. What else, practically, can you ask for?

5 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it says on the box   May 12, 2010

Can't get over the current price this is listed at, as I only bought it a few weeks ago and it was very cheap. Is proving to be a good backup , especially for use with a Brennan JB7 for backing up your music for transfer to another device. You just plug it in and away it goes - no need for formatting etc.
