WINDOWS 7 BEWARE February 16, 2010 Great camera but even after downloading software updates it will not connect to my PC.
Am in contact with Sony but not holding much hope.
All of my video was fine using XP but Windows 7 has turned it into a nightmare.
Will have to consider either selling the camera or going back to XP.
Great camera but please beware.
It will be useless if you cannot download or copy direct to DvD.
USER FRIENDLY July 5, 2009 Ian H. Mcdowall (Bonnie Scotland) THIS IS A PERFECT ENTRY LEVEL CAMCORDER, EASY TO USE BUT WITH SOME EASY TO MASTER ADVACED FEATURES. VERY TACTILE PRODUCT AND LIGHTWEIGHT IT IS A VERY GOOD LOOKING BIT OF KIT WITH A FANTASTIC ZOOM IT IS ALL YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM SONY I WOULD RECOMEND A SPARE BATTERY AS YOU JUST CAN'T STOP PLAYING WITH THE THING .
P.S. DONT BE TEMPTEDTO GO FOR A BIGGER HARDDRIVE CAPPACITY AS IT WILL BE BIG ENOUGH FOR MOST PEOPLE AND YOU COULD ALWAYS STORE ONTO MEMORY CARDS ON THE ODD OCCASION YOU NEED TO. I JUST LOVE THIS LITTLE BEAUTY
Perfect camcorder for my holiday May 30, 2009 Mr. Alan L. Thomson (luton, united kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After shopping around for a camcorder to take on holiday to New York, I decided that this seemed to be the one that ticked the most boxes, and for the cheapest price.
I was not disappointed. I took on board another reviewers advice to buy another battery (I bought the Sony FH75) which meant that I was never caught short if I wanted to film something. The Hard Drive itself held about 6 hours of footage on the highest quality setting, which might not seem like a lot but when you consider how much of the day you would actually film it's more than enough. At the end of the week I simply downloaded it onto my computer and that was that. Simple.
The camcorder is really simple to use, it has a touch screen so you dont have to worry too much about fiddling with buttons, and the display gives you a reading of how long the battery will last, and how much space the Hard Drive has left. Rather than giving you these figures as a percentage or "energy bar" it just tells you how many mins are left, which is so much easier.
As for the picture quality, I would say that for still pictures you should stick to a normal digital camera, this is OK for that but due to being a bit bigger it's not as easy to hold steady as a normal camera. For video footage (and lets face it thats why you owuld want a camcorder) it was great. I tested it at home and the zoom was so good that I was able to clearly read a car registation plate from about 150 yards. It is NOT a high definition camcorder, but unless you're looking to win awards for your work I dont think it matters too much, as the quality is really good even when I watched it later on a 42 inch tv.
Naturally, it's only going to be as good as the person using it when it comes to steadyness etc, but I found it more than satisfactory for my week away. Also it has the usual extra features that no-one really uses like black and white and sepia.
If can't say whether this is a better or worse camcorder than another, as I only used this one. What I can say is that this is a brilliant camcorder.
Superb lightweight camera with a decent zoom for beginners May 12, 2009 Mr. M. Heron (glasgow) Picked this camera up to take on my honeymoon, was mostly swayed by the sony brand, the fact it was so compact with no need for tapes and the zoom.
I was very impressed with all the features of this, even with the standard battery I was getting about an hour of recording, the quick on feature didnt drain the battery much and was very useful when you think you might need to film something quickly.
The nightshot actually worked really well, we went out a couple of times and used it and it really picked up the scene.
Overall I have no complaints at all about this camera, bringing it back with over 3 hours of footage and getting this onto DVD to show people was very easy and the included A/V out cable is handy for showing direct on TV.
One final point is that the connection points like the AV and USB are very well made and hidden on the camera behind ingenious slides etc
Well done Sony March 13, 2009 Mr. M. Webb (Dorset UK)
My first camcorder,am I glad I chose this one, very easy
to set up & use excellent colour, need I say more?
The one small downside is ,battery only lasts about
2hours, but otherwise would say a great buy.
